Of all Dutch companies listed on the Dutch stock-exchange
(AEX), Philips scores best with regard to sustainability issues.
Versatel is in the tail of the pack. This is result is obtained
from a new report by Dutch Sustainability Research (DSR),
published in cooperation with SiRi Company.
Philips leads with the highest relative score of its industry
while Versatel lags with the lowest. Philips’ sustainability
score is 45% above the European average of the consumer goods
industry. The company also maintained its lead of the previous
year by remaining the strongest leader of all AEX-constituents.
Marcel Jeucken, Head of Institutional Relations DSR: “It’s
remarkable that 17 out of 24 AEX-companies, outperform their
European sector average.” Philippe Spicher, CEO SiRi
Company adds: “Looking at the bigger picture, the sustainability
performances of the AEX-listed companies as a group were compared
to the performances at country level using the largest 350
European companies. As with last year, the United Kingdom
ranked first, Dutch companies third, and Belgian companies
last.“
Other eye-catching industry leaders within the AEX are Reed
Elsevier, ABN AMRO and ING Group. In the media sector, a large
dispersion is notable – Reed Elsevier scores almost
40% above the European industry average and ranks second in
the AEX-index. VNU scores just below the industry average,
while Wolters Kluwer scores over 40% below the European industry
average. Also notable is the difference between the telecommunication
providers KPN and Versatel. KPN scores just ahead of the industry
average, while Versatel ranks last with a score of almost
50% below the industry average.
